Benefits Of Oregano Oil
Posted by Edmond Rivera
The list of health benefits of this amazing oil are almost mind-numbing, and include:
- Thins and mobilizes mucous, and thus is a great expectorant and decongestant.
- Reduces inflammation: It has been shown in lab tests to be as effective (and in some cases more effective) than corticosteroids in reducing inflammation!
- Relieves pain: This potent oil is nearly as strong as morphine in it’s ability to reduce pain.
- Relieves cough: Helps to remove spasms in the small muscles in the lungs, thus greatly relieving coughing and bronchitis.
- Powerful anti-venom: This is a potent detoxifier of venom, so is great for spider bites, bee stings, etc.
- Relieves itching: Oregano oil is anti-pruritic, meaning it relieves itching and rashes (including poison ivy)
- Significant antioxidant and mineral content, particularly: calcium, phosphorus, iron, and magnesium.
Sound pretty good so far? Well I haven’t even gotten to the most startling benefits of all:
- Wild oregano oil is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-parasitic, and anti-fungal! That’s right, it is deadly to a staggering number of common pathogens. Not even the most powerful, broad-spectrum antibiotic can begin to make that claim.
- Anti-fungal: It’s fungicidal properties have no match. Tested against many forms of fungi, none could stand against it. In fact, according to Dr. Ingram (in the previously mentioned book) two studies that were done revealed just how powerful this herb is: When tested at a 1% concentration it killed all fungus it was tested against. When tested at a 1/10th of 1% concentration is still destroyed every fungus it came in contact with!
- Antiseptic: The antimicrobial action of oregano is so strong, it can kill an extremely wide variety of bacteria and viruses, including strep, staph, salmonella, and many more. It could even be used to decontaminate raw sewage! I won’t be testing that anytime soon, but it’s nice to know we have that option =).
So, what conditions and symptoms can benefit from this oil?

- Pneumonia
- Bronchitis
- Athlete’s Foot
- Insect bites/stings
- Food poisoning
- Sinusitis
- Ear aches
- Acne
- Asthma
- Fever
- Back pain
…and the list goes on.
